Harrisonburg City Hall
The existing Municipal Building has served as the city of Harrisonburg’s main offices since 1967. While it will remain a beautiful historic government building, the services from the Community Development and Municipal Buildings will be moved to the new, and more modern, City Hall. Working with a team of local professionals, Engineering Solutions provided the structural engineering services for this large, three story addition to the existing building.

The new City Hall is an exciting project to work on because it is one of the few that combines almost all construction materials. Design materials include limestone veneer (commonly called bluestone), concrete, masonry, precast concrete planks, structural steel, cold formed steel, and wood roof trusses. The connector between the new building and the old is created with a glass atrium to highlight the historical building and offset the new building. The project team included Mather ArchitectsMEI, Blackwell Engineering, and Nielsen Builders, the successful local contractor.
