The new building at 600 Canal Place in Richmond is 20 stories and will be the new office building for Dominion Power. There is a cast in place parking garage abutting the building. The building itself has an interior concrete core that is designed to take all the lateral forces from the building and provide elevator access to the upper floors. The building structure is a combination of steel framing, composite concrete floor decks, and columns along the exterior. Some of the defining features are the floor-to-ceiling glass curtain walls along the entire exterior, a cantilevered staircase, garden park on the roof of the garage, and lack of interior columns allowing for a open concept floor plan and maximum interior design flexibility.

After the tour, some of the SEAVa members went to Capital Ale House for a beverage and networking. We got to meet fellow structural engineers in central Virginia and talk about current and past projects. We look forward to the next SEAVa educational and networking event!
