Mary Carr Greer House

Mary Carr Greer played an important role in education in Albemarle County. Greer Elementary School, opened in 1974, is named after her. She taught domestic science at Albemarle Training School for 15 years and then became principal in 1931. She is responsible for implementing a formal four-year high school curriculum and for merging Albemarle Training School with the Charlottesville-Albemarle school system.

Greer’s historic house was built in the 1880s. We did a full home structural evaluation where we provided recommendations to strengthen or fix existing members while keeping the architectural charm of the house and improving its structural integrity.
